Career Management

Have you ever asked yourself; “Am I really doing what I love best”? How happy were you with your answer to yourself?

Almost every coaching program I’ve done addresses this question at some stage. It is a very traditional crossroads at some point in time in any career. Yet, how many people are truly pro-active about controlling their career planning and management?

Just ask yourself: of your last roles, how many did you "fall into" versus how many did you pro-actively plan, pursue and "land" for yourself?

Could you be asking yourself:

  • Why does it seem to be so hard to define what I really want from my career? To confidently know where I want to be  in 10 or 20 years?

  • Am I in the right role to maximise the use of my interests, skills and talents

  • Am I fully utized for getting the best outcomes for myself, my organisation and my clients or stakeholders?

  • What's in it for me? How can I maximise my value for my organisation and for myself?

  • What should my next role(s) be to drive my career to where I really want to be? How best can I get there? What is the right duration to stay in a role? Is my next role better in this or in another organisation? How will I know?

  • What is the right balance of patience versus aggression?

  • How do I optimally delegate to build a great team around me? It feels so risky to delegate. I feel like I'm giving everything away to others.
  • Is there a good time to “go out on my own”, and how would I go about that?

These are all pretty “normal” questions everyone asks from time to time, don't we?

While no two clients are the same, I have developed a flexible, yet powerful approach to coaching my clients in this career planning and career management space.

How would you feel if you had someone alongside you that would:

  1. Work with a pre-questionnaire, tailored to what emerges from our initial exploratory conversation?

  2. Help you reflect specifically on a number of aspects of your life's work, including your strengths, challenges, loves, hates, greatest achievements, learnings and disappointments?

  3. Work with you to mind map on whether a new career opportunity is right for you or not, building on the above, so you can clearly understand what matters to you most, including a revsit to your values in the process?

  4. Brainstorm your way through a list of over 80 career management attributes many other leaders, business owners, executives and professionals just like you have already worked through and added to?

  5. Use the "leapfrogging" concept to speed up review of your next career steps and map out the likelyhood, ramifications and roles. What doors could be opened for you?

  6. Map out probable steps and timing for your career; to assess appropriate lateral moves and how to navigate through obstacles in getting there?

  7. Teach you how to seek external opportunities when needed - such as considering starting your own business or contracting versus employment etc?

  8. Focus on this journey together with a thinking partner, a sounding board, who will challenge you thinking and planning?

  9. Strengthening numerous aspects of your attitude, your confidence, language, behaviour, soft skills and focus on developing the right allies through better self marketing, visibility and positioning yourself and your team?

  10. To guide you how to maximise your opportunities in order to continuously stack the odds in your favour?

The outcomes you seek and deserve

As a result, you should end up with a defined set of possible options and a game plan to put them into action. All throughout the process, you will have a sounding board and running mate to help you with any challenges or stumbles along the way, because my only agenda and objective is to help you achieve your goals.
